Data Usage Policy

Last Updated: January 15, 2025 | United States Jurisdiction

1. Purpose and Philosophy

Vehicle History Data Technologies Inc. is committed to upholding high standards of data governance, security, and statutory compliance across all vehicle data pipelines and customer integrations.

2. Driver's Privacy Protection Act (DPPA) Compliance

Under the federal Driver's Privacy Protection Act (DPPA - 18 U.S.C. ยง 2721 et seq.), personal information obtained from state motor vehicle department records is protected by federal law.

Our commercial platform complies with DPPA provisions by:

  • Restricting vehicle history records strictly to asset-specific attributes (title brands, mileage records, vehicle build specifications, manufacturer recalls, and registration jurisdiction dates)
  • Excluding personal identifying information (PII) such as individual owner names, home street addresses, driver's license numbers, and social security numbers from standard feeds
  • Requiring commercial API clients to certify legitimate business purposes when integrating vehicle data into enterprise workflows

3. Permissible Commercial Purposes

Clients utilize vehicle data under recognized commercial exceptions, including:

  • Verifying the accuracy of personal and commercial property disclosures in dealership trade-in appraisals
  • Preventing insurance fraud and underwriting vehicle collateral risk for automotive lenders
  • Conducting research and quality audits in wholesale automotive auctions
  • Fulfilling federal motor vehicle safety recall notifications and emissions compliance

4. Data Accuracy and Source Attributions

Vehicle records reflect information reported by state motor vehicle agencies, inspection stations, commercial fleet operators, and automotive manufacturers. While our platform applies rigorous checksum validation and normalization pipelines, records reflect external administrative filings.
